GRAD RESOURCES GOES INDEPENDENT FOR GREATER IMPACT

The more than 2 million graduate students in the U.S. face unique demands of research and study, yet there are limited resources available to assist them in dealing with the challenges of pursuing a Masters or Ph.D. degree. Since 1990, Campus Crusade for Christ has provided seminars, training and local support groups to these future leaders through the ministry of Grad Resources (www.GradResources.org).

On April 1, 2008, Grad Resources is relaunching as an independent, non-profit ministry. By forming a standalone, faith-based service, Grad Resources is seeking to become more effective in serving graduate students by partnering with more like-minded groups.

All graduate students can benefit from the Grad Resources materials, but many are looking for more personalized spiritual assistance to meet their needs. To meet this need, 56 Christian Grad Groups have been started across the country and three international groups in Korea.

In response to the numerous graduate student suicides on U.S. campuses, Grad Resources began the National Grad Crisis Hotline in 1999. The toll-free number (800-GRAD-HLP) has helped countless stressed students. The hotline has been even more effective since Grad Resources gave the tool to Hopeline, a national suicide prevention hotline (www.hopeline.com/gradhelp).

Nick Repak, founder of Grad Resources, stated, ÒWe will always do what is best to serve the needs of graduate students, even if it means giving away resources or partnering with others in order to be most effective.Ó

Local campuses have benefited the most from the leadership provided by Grad Resources. UTD, TCU, UNT, Texas A&M and UT-Austin have GR staff members providing direct assistance and coaching to their graduate student groups.

Dallas-area donors, who have provided most of the funding for the organization over the years, have pledged to continue supporting the new non-profit. The annual Grad Resources Golf Marathon has raised about $100,000 per year since it began in 1995 will be held May 13 at Canyon Creek Country Club.

After 32 years, Nick and Amy Repak will leave Campus Crusade for Christ staff on April 1 to provide leadership to the new Grad Resources.
